Napoleonic Units: Garrison French Light Cavalry

I've had these figures for a long time and finally have got round to painting them, as a break from working through all my unpainted S Range Napoleonic cavalry. These are the old Garrison figures, here painted as the Baden Hussars and the 10e Chasseurs a Cheval.

They are really nice figures and I'm pleased to have finally done them.

Napoleonic Units: Les Higgins French Foot Dragoons

My remaining odds and ends of Les Higgins French foot dragoons, painted in Spanish campaign dress, as inspired by a couple of Knotel plates. Interestingly the prodding forward pose is on a significantly less heroic scale than the other figures.

Lamming Napoleonic dismounted Hussars

These lovely figures were a mystery for a while but I am sure they are the Lamming dismounted hussar. There seem to be two variants, with shako and with busby. The officer is an S Range staff figure.

Napoleonic Units: Lamming Royal Scots Greys (later series)

Rose 20mm Napoleonic Units BR 1 British private advancing

This figure is I think the same as WG 1 in the 1956 Rose catalogue posted below, and therefore is one of the very earliest commercially produced wargame figures.

In this unit the rank and file are original figures, while the officers and sergeants are reissues. At some point someone has removed the detail of the Belgic shakos on the original figures to represent a (low) version of the earlier Stovepipe shako.

ACW Unit: Rose AC8 Private in Hardy hat advancing

This is my five-hour regiment - how long it took to paint and base them. The figures are new casts from Rob at Garrison, and they are led by an AC1 officer and AC2 colour bearer, both in kepi. The sword arm on the officer, to my eye, is inordinately long. The Rose figures are stylised and maybe lack detail, but I like them and these were a pleasure to paint. I have a stash of Napoleonic Officers which I plan to add to Les Higgins units, to provide a little more animation. I am waiting my share (600-700) of a collection of vintage castings of Napoleonic figures so I thought I would paint myself into a Rose frame of mind with these

Napoleonic Units - French Infantry

Mainly Alberken FN8s, Line Fusilier advancing.

Napoleonic Units - Nassau Regiment

Alberken figures - early ones with the smaller base - painted as the Ist Nassau regiment c 1810 on service in Spain. I am intending to add a grenadier company eventually using Hinton Hunt Voltigeurs in Colpack.

Vintage Units

I've been asked whether I might post some pictures of units over on the Hinton Hunter, and while thinking about this I thought I might do so here for some of the Napoleonic figures I have recently acquired, refurbished or repainted.

I'm always a little loath to do this, as I know my painting standard isn't up to much and these blogs are really to help people identify individual figures. Also I am committed to a high volume painting strategy so what I am aiming for is a workmanlike, consistent and reasonably neat finish which looks ok on the table from a few feet's distance. So some pictures of units are offered here for an impression of what these figures look like en masse, not as examples of good painting.
