This figure is marked 001 Rose on the underside of the horse. It doesn't appear in any of the Rose ctalogues I have seen and Rob Young, of Garrison Miniatures, who owns the Rose range, has never seen it before. Vintage 20mil's write up of Rose Miniatures rferes to John G Garratt mentioning a very early (late 50s/early 60s) Wellington figure, which shortly disappeared from production. It seems very likely this figure is it, which would make it one of the earliest British figures specifically designed for wargaming.

I've managed to gt my hands on a 1960 Rose catalogue and it had gone by then. Still, it's back now.
